Come and learn about the world’s most studied and controversial artifact — a 14-foot-long linen burial shroud. “Most studied” due to its scientifically unexplainable image of a life-sized crucified man showing all the unique wound marks associated with the biblical accounts of Jesus Christ’s suffering and death.
Cheryl H. White, Ph.D. is a professor of history at Louisiana State University at Shreveport, where she holds the endowed Hubert Humphreys Professorship. She has had a career-long interest in Shroud studies, currently serves on the board of directors of the Shroud of Turin Education and Research Association (STERA) and has published and presented original research from the Vatican Secret Archives related to the history of the Shroud for international journals and conferences. Dr. White served as the historical consultant on the Shroud of Turin exhibit developed for the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. and she has given several presentations there, as well as the Smithsonian Institution, where she lectures in their World History Certificate Program. As part of a USCCB catechetical team in 2023, she presented on the topic of the Shroud of Turin to thousands of young people at World Youth Day in Lisbon Portugal and was recently a presenter at the National Eucharistic Congress. She is a regular commentator on The History Channel, including a February 2024 program on the Shroud for History’s Greatest Mysteries, and features in a forthcoming documentary for EWTN. She works closely with the Center for the International Study of the Shroud in Turin on various collaborative educational projects.
